Bio
Born in Geraldton W.A., Pauline has lived in S.A for 3 years. As a full time sole parent of a 7-year-old daughter, she works part time, and studies Australian women’s history at TAFE, intending to study social services, specialising in counseling. She is an online social activist and a strong believer in social justice. She is an enthusiastic parent and volunteers at her child’s school whenever she can.
I nominated for What Women Want in Wakefield, because women, being 51% of the population, lack equal representation in Australian politics. We’re being asked to have children, and to contribute to growing the economy, yet in reality, women get little help to do this, let alone achieve a balanced family/work life.
I firmly believe every child in Australia is the future of this country and every child should have access to affordable, quality education, and the opportunity to enter into higher education without being encumbered with a life long debt.
Every family, no matter what form that family takes should have access to paid parental leave, affordable childcare, including age appropriate after school care for 12 – 16 year olds.
Economic prosperity should not come at the cost of social policy. Work Choices legislation is already having a negative impact on many workers wages, especially women.
Environmental protection is of the utmost importance, what we do now will have a direct impact on our children’s future. Solar energy is a safer option over nuclear energy and Australia has the opportunity to be a world leader in developing renewable energy technologies. I would like to see a fairer Australia for all.
As a sole parent I understand the challenges of raising a child with limited resources. I believe this experience will give me a good understanding of the needs of many across the Wakefield electorate. I will work hard to represent the needs of everyone across the community.
